I had a coaching session with a client yesterday and we were discussing his social media reach. He has over 10,000 contacts within his network but feels he is only engaging with around 5%.
I suggested he try posting something completely different to his usual posts, which are based on his core services. The idea behind this is to attract a different attention from new people. We’ll see what happens.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always got.

Use LinkedIn

I rarely carry business cards these days and ask new business acquaintances if I can connect with them on LinkedIn instead. Most people are on LinkedIn, although I meet many who say ‘I’ve got a profile but it’s not complete’ or ‘I don’t use it’. To my mind LinkedIn is essential for business people.

Upping your game

I’m not a sales person so why would I want sales training?

In my view everyone is in sales. Ever been manipulated by a very small child? Perhaps a child that can’t speak yet? That’s a (small) sales person in action.

So……….you haven’t got the word ‘sales’ in your job title or job description, so why would you be interested in sales training? Refer to the paragraph above! The ability to persuade others (with integrity) to see your viewpoint is essential in business. Also your job or business only exists because you have customers, whatever your role it is vital that you keep that in mind.

Focus

No, not an advert for an optician.    I’m often asked, how do I find new customers?     I would strongly suggest that you profile your customer, whether they be consumer or business.  My strength is B2B sales (business to business) and when I am working with a new client I ask them to think about their last ten customers, who they are and what did they buy?

The focus bit comes in when you have your answer.   These are the customers that you aim to contact and create a relationship.
