When having a qualification makes things worse

I’m always interested in people who list their qualifications rather than what they have actually done.  I’m not knocking education and believe it’s important to keep on learning, but sometimes having a certificate is not what it seems.

I read an article in The Times earlier this week that says it all.   I credit Matthew Parris for the content.

Old school analogue skills

postcard

There’s been a lot on LinkedIn lately about the power of contacting others in person as opposed to digitally.

I attended the Welsh Business Show yesterday and met a few people that I’d previously only been in contact with digitally.  Without out doubt the digital contact added the recognition factor, but there is nothing to beat meeting someone face to face, with second place going to via the telephone.

To talk to me about improving your phone skills ring 07976 359069 (or you could email Deborah@anewcolour.co.uk if phoning is too big an ask!)     The picture is a postcard by the way – ask your parents what it was used for…………………

Where is the pain?

ouch

No, this is not a medical advice column.    I went to a seminar last week at https://www.shedmarketing.co.uk/ and one of the things we discussed was the ‘pain point’ that every business has.

Most businesses have got things sorted, but there is often one important issue that they just can’t get quite right.     I work with companies on their sales strategy as sales is so often that pain point.

I always say, if you haven’t got sales, you haven’t got a business.

What do I do to help?    Get in touch Deborah@anewcolour.co.uk to talk about your ‘ouch’.

Perfect client

connectionsI work with businesses to improve their sales function and one of my first questions is “Who would be your perfect client?”.

The answer is often that “everyone” would want their product.    It may be true that everyone buys a version of their product, for example food, it cannot be true that everyone would want the specific product they offer.   If you are a butcher your client base is not going to include vegans!

I encourage businesses to think hard about their perfect client; who is their latest client?  Who is their most profitable client?   Why do they buy from you rather than another supplier?

Plenty of fish in your sea

I had a coaching session with a client yesterday and we were discussing his social media reach. He has over 10,000 contacts within his network but feels he is only engaging with around 5%.
I suggested he try posting something completely different to his usual posts, which are based on his core services. The idea behind this is to attract a different attention from new people. We’ll see what happens.
If you always do what you’ve always done, you always get what you’ve always got.

Use LinkedIn

I rarely carry business cards these days and ask new business acquaintances if I can connect with them on LinkedIn instead. Most people are on LinkedIn, although I meet many who say ‘I’ve got a profile but it’s not complete’ or ‘I don’t use it’. To my mind LinkedIn is essential for business people.
It’s free……………what more do you want????

Upping your game

Would you like to go up a level with your sales skills? A straightforward way of doing this is to ‘up’ the level of your target customer. Is this challenging? Yes, maybe. The upside is that your performance is likely to go up too, enhancing your skills and keeping you on your toes. A good thing, surely?

It’s good to have help

I’m loving the sunny weather we are having and am spending as much time as possible in the garden.  I’ve perfected the art of viewing my laptop in sunlight.

I’m lucky to have a useful assistant:-

He’s not much help in truth!   Made me think that we all need help sometimes.   For help in boosting your sales email me Deborah@anewcolour.co.uk or phone 07976 359069

I’m not a sales person so why would I want sales training?

In my view everyone is in sales. Ever been manipulated by a very small child? Perhaps a child that can’t speak yet? That’s a (small) sales person in action.

So……….you haven’t got the word ‘sales’ in your job title or job description, so why would you be interested in sales training? Refer to the paragraph above! The ability to persuade others (with integrity) to see your viewpoint is essential in business. Also your job or business only exists because you have customers, whatever your role it is vital that you keep that in mind.
